Question: Why are the keys on a keyboard set up the way they are? For example why are w and e next to eachother

An example of Yellow Journalism that i can think of is yesterday the news channels said Obama was winning 51% to 49% when it was actually 49% to 49% with 2% undecided. It seemed like the news station was leaning more toward Obama or just making a random prediction.
